Regional Indian with a playful twist, pizza becomes great again and the cocktails are a whole new level
January, 2017, New Delhi: It’s fun, it’s quirky, it’s inspired by pubs the world over, and it now has a brand new menu to boot. Monkey Bar, India’s first and favourite gastro-pub greets the New Year with more of everything you love. The menu is non-conformist and quirky, bringing together all the signature dishes that have made it a delight for food lovers; as well as lots more small and large plates. Expect to find regional Indian, homely and familiar flavours, given an unconventional and playful twist, comforting pub grub and the newest cocktails with a twist. Enjoy eclectic delicacies from the filling Baked Brie to Soulful bowl meals and amazing cocktails like Pack A Punch, Toast To Calcutta and Mad Men. The emphasis, as always is on the fresh, innovative and affordable-in a cool, yet, laid back atmosphere.
Monkey Bar, the Indian avatar of the gastro-pub, has always delivered on the promise of anything but the usual. Adding more for those peckish moments, or a soul satisfying meal the new additions bring regional dishes with a twist, superb variety in each section, along with the newest entrant on the menu, i.e. pizzas. The menu is not only inclusive, but also caters to the palate of the comfort seeker and the gourmand, alike. Monkey regulars will immediately recognise and love the Loaded Nachos, Butterfly Chicken, and Goan Chorizo Pao. New on the menu are appetizing small plates, like the Prawn Pil Pil (prawns tossed in olive oil with chilli, garlic and parsley); Kerala Bao Utthapam (Kerala inspired lamb fry; served with bao uthappam and coconut chutney) and the newest in the salads is the delicious Kerala Red Rice Salad(baby spinach, red rice, raw mango, coconut, peanuts and upmensinkai).
The latest selection of pizzas, thin crust, bursting with flavour and packed with delicious toppings, will keep every pizza freak satisfied. Choose from toppings like, Mushroom and Truffle Oil; Spinach, Feta, Herbs and Grilled Onions; go for a change in flavour with the Farmer’s Pizza(jalapeño, olive, capsicum, sweet corn, onion, tomato and mozzarella); or for the more piquant flavours, opt for Lamb Meatball & Cheese (slow cooked lamb meat balls, rosemary, tomato sauce and mozzarella). Or just dig into the all time classic with the Pepperoni Piccante.
Much has been written about the Monkey Bar burgers, which seriously challenge traditional notions of what a burger should be: smoky and juicy, even well done. The Breakfast Burger (a hearty combo of grilled chicken, avocado, fried egg, cheddar and onion jam) is a new addition for those midday cravings. There is also a selection of food that qualifies as pub grub, with a distinctive Indian twist. The mains have some tasty options as well. Dig into a comforting the Prawn Ghee Roast, Kundapur style ghee roast with freshwater prawns, served with ghee rice or the signature Soulful Bowls, with sticky gobindobhog rice, kimchi, picked vegetables and 6 – minute egg, cucumber, scallions and fried onions with a choice of Chilli Paneer, Chicken Katsu, Tenderloin Bulgogi and BBQ Pork.
The new additions on the menu not only promise to charm the gourmand but ensure a happy experience for the less adventurous. Monkey Bar has also added a new set of cocktails to their already innovative bar menu. Raise you spirits with the unusual concoctions like the MC Smokey (Whiskey, Pickle Juice, Lapsang Souchong Syrup, Sweet & Sour) Hipster Smash (Vodka, cucumber-elderflower spritz, watermelon and mint), Not So Vanilla (vodka, espresso, vanilla, cream and cinnamon), The Trump Card (vodka, fresh ginger cordial, passion fruit). Mad Men (whiskey, coffee – orange syrup, tonic and rosemary) is a breezy and delightful combo guaranteed to make you happy. It’s no longer about regular cocktails but a whole new spin where innovation and freshness are firmly at the forefront.
All in all, this is a menu that defies stereotypes, bringing boldly to the table comfort food from days gone by and lets you indulge in your Indian roots, with a totally fresh perspective.
